Engaging with Excellence

Below is a sample of one of the new writing tasks. In this task students are provided with visual prompts for writing. Formative work and these prompts will enable students  to write appropriate texts without reference to other sources. This will prevent copying from such sources.

Summative assessment resources

All English Language and English for Academic purposes (EAP) unit standards have been revised.

The previous versions of the standard, and the associated assessment resources from The ELRC, can be used until the end of 2026. This is to give schools the opportunity to create new assessment tasks aligned the revised unit standards.

I will prioritise updating assessment resources for the EAP standards for Term 1, 2025. The English Language unit standards assessments resources will be updated throughout 2025.

The current standards can be found here.

The following Level 3 EAP unit standards can be used to credential NCEA Level 1 literacy in 2024 and 2025: 30507 (timed writing) and 30511 (reading). Find more information here.

The following Level 4 EAP unit standards will contribute to university entrance literacy including the University of Auckland's Academic English Language Requirement:  22749 (timed writing), 22750 (crafted writing) and 22751 (reading). Find more information here.

Formative teaching and learning units for both the Level 3 and Level 4 EAP unit standards can be found on ESOL Online.
